Aurelio – Rhythm & Story

An artistic project founded by multidisciplinary dance-theatre artist Pedro Aurelio, blending tap, flamenco, ballet, and cinematic storytelling—where Golden Age glamour meets contemporary rhythm.

About

Pedro Aurelio is a Winnipeg-based interdisciplinary rhythm artist, choreographer, and educator. Trained in classical ballet and flamenco, his artistic life spans decades of performance, teaching, and choreography across stage and studio.Rooted in extensive tap teaching, his current work returns to tap as an expressive, narrative voice — where rhythm becomes story, and movement carries memory. His work draws from a career shaped by rigorous classical training, international study, theatrical collaboration, and long-term professional teaching.Aurelio is also the founding artistic director of Bolero Dance Theatre, a Winnipeg-based company that created and presented dance works for over 25 years. The company’s emphasis on theatricality, musicality, and cross-genre storytelling continues to inform his work today.

Work:

Aurelio’s work bridges tap dance and theatrical storytelling. Trained in tap, classical ballet, and flamenco, he brings a deep musical sensibility to performance and teaching, with an emphasis on clarity, rhythm, and character. His artistic interests explore how movement carries memory, identity, and influence — particularly through the lens of classic film and stage traditions. Whether performing, teaching, or developing new work, Aurelio approaches dance as both craft and communication.

Performance:

Aurelio Rhythm & Story offers a flexible, visually engaging dance-theatre presentation that blends percussive dance, music, and storytelling. Performances may be adapted to a wide range of venues and occasions.Step into the world of Aurelio Rhythm & Story, where tap dance, flamenco, and theatrical flair meet beloved tunes from stage, screen, and jazz. Inspired by the golden age of Hollywood and Broadway, this performance celebrates rhythm, elegance, and showmanship — from the iconic steps of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to the charm of Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and Rita Hayworth. With brief stories and historical insights woven between numbers, Aurelio invites audiences to experience not just the movement, but the story behind the steps.Visually, the presentation unfolds like a miniature revue: layered choreography with moments of solo, duo, and trio work; carefully chosen costume changes that build toward a glamorous finale; optional elements of Spanish dance with castanets or fan work; and ensemble pieces inspired by musical theatre classics. Performances are designed to be modular and adaptable — suitable for intimate indoor spaces, larger stages, outdoor events, and special celebrations. Music is typically recorded, with the option of live accompaniment when available. At its heart, Aurelio Rhythm & Story is joyful, theatrical, and timeless — connecting audiences through rhythm, memory, and live performance.
